Jeep Grand Cherokee Engines and Towing Capacity

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is available in a variety of engines. Its baseline engine is a 3.6L Pentastar V6 that’s capable of cranking out 295 horsepower with 260 lb-ft of torque. This works with an 8-speed automatic transmission as well as rear-wheel drive, but four-wheel drive is also available. When outfitted with the proper towing package, the base model is able to tow up to 6,200 pounds.

If you’re looking for more power, the higher trim levels offer more robust engines. The first upgrade is the 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine, which is optional for the trim levels Trailhawk®, Summit, Overland, and High Altitude. This engine produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and is able to tow up to 7,200 pounds.

For the SRT trim, there’s a 6.4L V8 that cranks out 475 horsepower with 470 lb-ft of torque with a towing capacity of 7,200 pounds. Finally, if you’re wanting even more juice, the top-tier trim, the Trackhawk®, has a 6.2L supercharged V8. While its towing capacity is also 7,200 pounds, it offers a lot more speed and performance and can produce 707 horsepower with 645 pound-feet of torque.

Cargo Capabilities

The Jeep Grand Cherokee can carry plenty of cargo inside too. It offers lots of space for all your bags, bicycles, and boxes. Plus, with a power liftgate, you can load up when you’ve got your hands fully too.

The trunk features 36.3 cubic feet of storage space. If you need to load more, you can fold the backseats down and get up to 68.3 cubic feet of cargo room. A fold-forward front-passenger seat is also available to help you pack longer items. You’ll also be able to tie larger cargo to the roof rails.
