Set the Seat Height
When setting the chair height exactly where you want it, making sure there’s enough space between your head and the roof is only half of it. You’ll also want to make sure your eye level is at least three inches above the steering wheel.
Sit Back
It’s important not to sit too close to the steering wheel in order to avoid injuring your chest, neck, or head in the event the unexpected happens and you’re involved in a collision. The way to make sure you’re sitting back far enough is to position your tailbone as close to the seatback as possible while still being able to apply the pedals using your whole foot. Sitting this way will also provide you with the necessary back support.
Keep Those Hips Up
You’ll want your hips to be higher than your knees. This can be accomplished by adjusting the bottom part of the seat to allow your thighs to be supported all the way to the knees. Opening up your hips in this way will increase circulation to your back.
Adjust the Headrest
The position of the headrest is vital to helping prevent whiplash in the unlikely event of a rear-end collision. Position the top of the headrest between the tips of your ears and the top of your head. You should be able to feel it scarcely touching the back of your head.
Position the Mirrors
Now that you’ve set the correct height and you’re comfortably sitting back in the seat, make sure the rearview mirror and both side mirrors are where they need to be. Keep in mind: You should be able to see what’s happening behind you without having to move and cause any strain to your neck.
Take Advantage of the Lumbar Support
When setting the lumbar support where it’s most comfortable for you, take full advantage of the front-and-back and up-and-down controls. You’ll want to have an even amount of pressure from your hips all the way up to your shoulders.
