The Three Best Mountain Bike Spots in Casper

Casper, Wyoming is a beautiful place full of all kinds of outdoor activities for people of all ages and ability levels to enjoy. If you are a mountain bike enthusiast, check out these spots in the area. Each is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face while you get out and enjoy some fresh air away from the demands of daily life. 1. Muddy Mountain Trail Muddy Mountain welcomes outdoor adventure seekers of all ages and ability levels. It is about 45 minutes from town and lets you completely disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with your bike and the outdoors. To get to the trail, you have to drive off the paved road onto a dirt road that can be tricky if the weather has been less than ideal. more There are two sections to the trail. The descent is all single track for speed and fun for inexperienced riders. However, the return trip up the mountain is a rocky fire road that takes some technical knowledge to enjoy. There are logs to ride over. As you make the return climb, take a moment to enjoy the view. A technical rock climb greets you near the top of the trail. 2. Crossroads Park Trail If you are looking for a ride in the city that is easily accessible, check out the Crossroads Park Trail. You can reach the trail from the Platte River Parkway. The single-track trail is based on the flat bottom of the North Platte River. For those that enjoy the sand, it dominates the sub straight but is pretty firm throughout the track. Stay aware as you ride because the track runs into a rustic disk golf course. It also passes a good fishing spot if you want to combine two passions into one fun day. If you are trying to choose a bike for this ride, consider a drop bar gravel bike or cross country mountain bike. 3. Eadsville Trail The Eadsville Trail is perfect for the mountain biker looking for an extreme cardio workout. The Eadsville Trail is the flagship trail for the Casper Mountain Nordic Center. It was the first trail built by the Casper, Wyoming Trails Alliance, and named after the old Eadsville mining town. The trail is a single track Nordic loop with intermediate difficulty. It is approximately 3.5 miles long. The trail is well marked and features a variety of terrain. You can reach the trail from the lower parking lot of the Nordic Center. Follow the blue trail markers that leave the parking lot between "Strube's Loop" and the warming hut. As always, when biking, remember to wear proper safety gear. Nothing ruins a good trip like a bad injury. Bring a friend with you to enjoy the location together. If you are planning on going alone, make sure someone knows where you are going and roughly what time you plan on returning. Keep your cellphone charged not just for pictures, but in case an emergency arises. Image via Pixabay.com

Used Cars

Things to Consider When Deciding Between a New or Used Car

There are lots of things to consider before purchasing a vehicle. But before you invest in a vehicle, one consideration you shouldn't ignore is whether or not you want a new vehicle or a used one. Here are 4 things you need to consider to help you decide between a new and used car. 1. Depreciation Costs Depreciation quantifies the loss in value of an item over time. Driving the vehicle off the lot will result in immediate depreciation of 20%. According to Kelly Blue Book most new vehicles depreciate as much as 30% in the first year. A $30,000 car might lose $6,000 the minute you drive away from the dealership, and as much as $9,000 after one year. If someone asked you to throw away $9,000 you'd say they were crazy, but people do it all the time when buying a new car. Buying a used car saves you that high cost of depreciation. Another answer to this depreciation conundrum comes in the question: How long are you planning on owning it? more 2. Length of Ownership If you are planning on owning the vehicle 10 years or more than the initial loss of value becomes more palatable. As depreciation slows down over time, the actual usage of the vehicle is where your value lies. However, if you are the type of person who wants a new vehicle every three years, be prepared to absorb the 30 percent loss each time you trade your vehicle in. 3. Warranty & Repairs Here's where the new car wins in the argument. Most manufacturers are offering significant warranties on new vehicles. Basic bumper to bumper warranties are usually 3 years or 36,000 miles. Powertrain warranties run from 5 to 10 years. Many offer extended warranty plans, some free, and some for a price. You get next to nothing on a used vehicle. These warranties are like insurance policies against your vehicle breaking down. The reliability of a new car is increased with these warranties. A used vehicle usually doesn't come with one. Repairing a used vehicle can cost thousands of dollars every year. Even new cars can cost up to $2,000 in maintenance and repair costs the first year. No matter how well built a car may be, things wear out. 4. Certified Pre-Owned Most dealers offer certified pre-owned vehicles that come with good warranties. These certified pre-owned vehicles offer the best value because of this, and you've avoided the cost of depreciation when buying a new car. Certified pre-owned vehicles are often leased vehicles of a single owner that have been maintained by the dealership as part of the lease. Mileage tends to be lower for the years driven, and overall cosmetics are better too. Simply put, you get a better used car, better warranty, at a lower price than buying new, and better reliability than buying used off the street. The final decision is about the money. Specifically, when do you want to spend it, how much can you afford, and on what? Image via Flickr by Roadsidepictures

Ram 1500 Hemi laramie 2019

Meet the Ram 1500 - MotorTrend Truck of the Year

What makes a truck a good truck? Power for sure, along with towing ability, payload, mileage, comfort - the list goes on and on. There are a lot of good trucks out there. But there's only one 2019 MotorTrend Truck of the Year. That's the Ram 1500 and here are a few reasons why. Power It all starts under the hood in the Ram 1500. Dodge uses a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with eTorque standard on most trim models. It pushes out 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque to deliver a best-in-class standard V-6 horsepower, best-in-class 4x4 fuel economy, and best-in-class 4x4 driving range. This blend of power and efficiency is achieved with advanced technologies like variable valve timing and variable valve lift systems. more Jump up to the 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI engine and you get 395 horsepower, 410 lb-ft of torque, and a towing capacity above 11,000 pounds. Opt for the eTorque version and you'll enjoy the advantages of Dodge's mild hybrid system. This system uses variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation to get best-in-class 4x4 V-8 fuel economy, best-in-class 4x4 highway driving range, and a best-in-class V-8 towing capacity of up to 12,750 pounds. Engineering The new Ram 1500 has been re-engineered with efficiency and comfort in mind, two things often overlooked in truck design. Start with the Ram's Active Air Dam that automatically extends down 2.5 inches when approaching 30 MPH to reduce drag, which improves mileage. Dodge redesigned the hood too, elevating it to improve air deflection from the wiper area. It also has a new sculpted roof that directs the air flow to the real spoiler for the best frontal drag coefficient in its class. Dodge has also equipped the Ram 1500 with an all new Active Level Four Corner Air Suspension system. The Ram 1500 will automatically lower itself at highway speeds to reduce drag, improve efficiency, and smoothen out the ride. The Ram 1500 also has an Auto-Load Leveling system that makes towing a breeze. Combine that with Ram's easy trailer hookup system and best-in-class towing capacity and you'll never look at towing the same again. Comfort & Technology The Ram 1500 drives like a dream and inside it looks like one too. Available Natura leather seats with both front and rear equipped with ventilation are only the beginning. A fold down rear center console, reclining rear seats, and 45.1 inches of leg room in the back seat are all best-in-class features. The flashy center console up front is configurable to best suit your purpose, turning the Ram 1500 into a mobile office.
